I bought this comforter for napping and also sleeping downstairs when my husband snores. Up to now, I had a large assortment of blankets and afghans and non-down comforters on the sofa. I was concerned if such a low priced down comforter could really be soft and fluffy and warm. After all, some of them sell for hundreds of dollars.
When I took it out of it’s packaging, there wasn’t an obnoxious odor like some comforters are said to have. I didn’t have to air it out for 2 weeks before being able to sleep with it. It is fluffy, although I guess it’s possible to stuff more feathers into it if desired. Bear in mind, the more feathers, the higher the cost. The same with the thread count. The 600TC on this comforter is great since anything under 300TC would be a waste of money.
It is a Dry-Clean only product. This is something to keep in mind considering the cost of dry cleaning such a large object. Personally, I feel that anything made of down should be professionally dry-cleaned. Otherwise, you have to wash it in an industrial size washer/dryer at a laundromat where you cannot specify gentle wash cycle or do an extra rinse or anything special in the dryer. In addition, you have no idea what was previously in the washer/dryer you’re using that could mess up your comforter; i.e. chlorine bleach, dyes, harsh detergents.
It is also important to buy a duvet cover for it. This avoids having to wash the actual comforter which is easier on the down. The Royal Velvet pink logo with the crown is quite classy in my opinion. However, some men have posted that they don’t like it. If you buy a duvet cover then you won’t have to see the logo if you don’t want to. Also, remember that whatever cover you buy will be what is touching you. The material should be as good or even better than the comforter itself. Buy one that has internal ties to secure the comforter on each corner or buy those comforter grips that secure the four corners.
The fact that the comforter has baffle-box stitching is also a plus. It prevents the down from shifting and avoids cold spots. However, you should still shake it to make it fluff to it’s maximum. It only takes a minute to shake it. I never want to get out from under my comforter. Wish I could live in it. All in all, I think it’s soft, fluffy, warm and lovely. However, my husband thinks it’s sorta heavy in weight. That’s probably cause I’m basically cold and he’s basically hot.
P.S. We live near San Francisco, California, with regards to weather temperatures.
